NEW YEAR BLESSING

by Marcie Bridges, @Marcie_Bridges

“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”’
Numbers 6:24-26

It may seem selfish or pretentious to ask God to bless us but the Psalms are filled with prayers from David for God to bless him and his household.

And while it is not selfish to ask God to bless us, I believe we must have the right attitude of mind and heart. For although God says, “Knock and it will be opened unto you” or “You have not because you ask not” , I firmly believe we must ask in a humble and contrite spirit— not asking for things like riches— but rather,  His will in our lives.

Seek God first and His kingdom. Seek His heart, seek His mind, and love Him with your heart, mind, and soul— then He will give you the desires of your heart. (And it’s been my experience that the desires of my heart become His desires for my life when I keep Him first.) When we lay up our treasures in Heaven, there will our hearts be also (Matthew 6:19-21).

NEW YEAR'S PRAYER

Father of Lights, maker of my life
Creator, Savior, Lord and King
my heart and my soul
come humble and low
to the foot of Your throne.

Bless me dear Lord I pray
in Your goodness and grace
mercies new every day
leading me in Your will and way.

Shine down Your light
let not my foot slip left or right
guide me in Your wisdom

may Your truth shine ever bright.

Teach me to pray as I ought
bless each meditative thought
Lord, hear my prayer to You
restore, repair, renew.

And at the close of each day
may I rest in Your sweet peace
the blessing of Your generous hand
in gratitude I pray this, Amen.

I love this last line from Matthew Henry’s Commentary on Numbers 6:22-27:

For in every place where God records his name he will meet his people and bless them.*

If you are God’s child, you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, then your name is recorded in the book of life. And when you ask God to meet with you He will come and He will bless you. Maybe not with wealth of this world, but with only the good gifts He can give us that we didn't even know we needed.

I pray each of you will seek God this year with all your hearts and in turn will find His abundant blessings have showered down on you in ways you never thought possible.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
From My Heart to Yours,
Marcie
