FILL MY CUP LORD

by Marcie Bridges, @Marcie_Bridges
As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?” Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.
Psalm 42:1-3, 11

“Fill my cup, Lord, I lift it up Lord. Come and quench this thirsting of my soul. Bread of Heaven feed me til I want no more. Fill my cup. Fill it up and make me whole.”¹

I sat on the top step listening to the river as it bubbled over the rocks. Nature was singing all around me. A light breeze stirred the leaves of the trees as birds sang along to the song. I was mesmerized.

Tears flooded my eyes as I sang this chorus. It had been flooding my heart for weeks leading up to this retreat. God’s presence wrapped around me and His soft voice whispered to me…come to me Marcie. Come to me. Don’t be afraid. Just come.

We had all come thirsty. Thirsty for the Living Water. Thirsty for more of Jesus and less of us. We had come dehydrated longing for renewal. Longing to be quenched of this thirst that would not abate.

The words of our keynote speaker took root inside my heart:

"When we get dehydrated we forget who we are. But, God is the great I AM. And He says, I AM WHATEVER YOU NEED ME TO BE WHENEVER YOU NEED ME [TO BE IT]." ² (addition mine)

Now if that doesn’t fill you up even a little bit then I’m not sure what will. I mean, come on! God promises to be whatever we need at the moment we need Him. And whenever we accept His invitation to come to Him, He is right there to fill us up with whatever we are hungering and thirsting for.

Come.
Cup your hands
let them be filled
with living water
for your soul.
Drink.
Deeply of His grace.Stretch out your hand
open, willing, needing,
to be filled
with mercy and truth.
Come

Abide.
Let His words
His love, His heart
reside, quenching
the thirsting of your soul.

IN YOUR PRESENCE

by Marcie Bridges, @Marcie_Bridges

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised
In the city of our God, In His holy mountain.
Beautiful in elevation, The joy of the whole earth,
Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north,
The city of the great King.
Psalm 48:1-2

Sing with me...

“Holy Spirit You are welcome here. Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere. Your glory God is what my heart longs for, to be overcome by Your presence Lord!” ¹

Have you ever been overcome by the presence of the Lord? Do you sincerely want to be in His presence?

I do.

But I don’t always ask for it. And confession, sometimes I ask, but I don’t feel His presence. It’s like a black and white television show. There’s no color to my world. I feel desperate despair.

Until...

I sincerely request His presence. It goes something like this:

Father God, I know I’ve sinned against You and against You only. I come before You in repentance and desire Your forgiveness. Lord, please wash my heart, mind, soul and spirit through the blood of Your Son, Jesus. May I become whiter than snow. Father, I ask for You to reveal Yourself to me as only You can. Show me Your path of goodness and righteousness and shower me with Your presence and love. Thank You, Father, for loving me. Thank You for Your grace. In the power, blood and the name of Jesus I pray, amen.

And His response?

“Here I am my child. I never left You. All I see is my Son in You. I’ve been waiting for You to come running back to me. I love you.”

Then I open His Word and there He is. In all of His glory as the sun comes back out to play and suddenly, like in The Wizard of Oz, everything blossoms into brilliant rainbows of color.

It started as a whisper
slow, hesitant, unsure.
A longing in my spirit
desiring something more.
An empty house beckoned

my heart to speak His name
quietly in surrender
my lips began to praise.
Each word a little stronger
eyes close, hands raise,

tears flow
And I find myself standing
in Your presence
“How Great Thou Art”
becomes an anthem.
When the last note is sung
the tears drop one-by-one
knees buckle beneath Your glory
as Your love covers me wholly.

PRAYER OF A BROKEN SPIRIT

by Marcie Bridges, @Marcie_Bridges

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have broken may rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
Psalm 51:7-12

Somewhere down the hall, doors are slamming, children running and shouting, an elevator dings welcoming visitors into its suffocating space.
But room 217 is quiet. Quiet in a holy hush that has been made a refuge for one who needs the refreshment of THE HOLY. This room is a sanctuary. Its bed a haven for prayers and tears, its walls keeping secrets, and its windows capturing God’s answers to the pleadings of a heart searching for Him.

There is refuge for the yearning heart. There is Living Water for the deserted, parched, gnawing soul. But we must seek it. We will not find it until we desire it.

“Seek the Lord while He may be found,
call upon Him while He is near” ¹. . .

The invitation is open. It never closes. Until you close it.

He’s always waiting for us to come to Him, to seek Him, to find Him, to draw close to Him. He is waiting to forgive, cleanse, and mend. He’s waiting at the end of the road always watching in anticipation for us to come running to Him asking to be His child once again. ²

We don’t deserve this grace. No. But He is offering it to us.

And we can come just as we are. Just as we are we can come, kneel, bend our hearts and heads to accept His invitation of life. Resurrection only happens when we die first.

PRAYER OF A
BROKEN SPIRIT

Create in my heart, Lord,
a secret place
a clean slate
a space to receive Your grace.

Where Your Living Water

flows in trickling drops
touching each parched spot
cleansing the uttermost blot.

Create in me, O God,
a clean heart
whiter than snow
purer than gold.

That my spirit may be
refreshed, renewed, released
joyful in salvation’s tune
singing Your praises today
in thankfulness, rejoicing always.

YOU ARE INVITED

by Marcie Bridges, @Marcie_Bridges

For I will satisfy the weary soul,
and every languishing soul I will replenish.
At this I awoke and looked,
and my sleep was pleasant to me.
Jeremiah 31:25-26 (ESV)

YOU
ARE INVITED

. . .to bring your thirsty, deserted, worn out, weary soul to the well.

Bring every burden, every heartache, every tear, every joy, every thankful thought to the One who can satisfy the deepest longings of your soul.

Come

It’s the invitation of a lifetime. The invitation of a lifeline.

Jesus is beckoning you with His outstretched hand to come and grasp on with all you have. He is inviting you to walk with Him, talk with Him, rest with Him.

The table is set just for the two of you. Come and dine. Fill yourself with the goodness of the Lord. Taste and see that He is good. That He is God.

The garden is filled with His fragrance. A bench waits for you two to sit and talk like you’ve never talked before. About anything. Everything. The best friend who listens eagerly without interruption.

The ocean is waiting for you two to walk at Sunset, hand-in-hand, enjoying the beauty of the evening. Quietly He whispers to you how much He loves you.

You are invited to spend time with the Savior with one simple word. Come.

COME THIRSTY

It’s the invitation of a lifetime
from the One Who sacrificed all
echoing through eternity
sending forth a most priceless call.
Come.
Come to the waters flowing with sweet relief
from the harshness and the hardships

to the abundant life you seek.
Not from duty, force, or pressure
just His outstretched hand in love
make your way to the quiet and the stillness
where blessings of rest flood.
In the thirsting of your soul
there’s a quiet invitation
to come refresh your spirit
in the waters of His salvation.
