RESURRECTION AND LIFE

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” John 11:25

RESURRECTION AND LIFE

There is no life in this wilderness

Brittle bones bruise and break so easily

Breath has ceased to ignite life

Today seems as desolate as yesterday

Tomorrow is a wasteland of hope.

Sin overtook where love once dwelled

Dried up the spirit where now depression reigns

Death is now the only thing it seems

That can make this lifeless body rest.

But the spirit cries out instead…

OH LORD GOD OF ISRAEL

RESTORE TO ME THE JOY OF MY SALVATION

Reveal yourself to me in this desolate place

Breathe life into these dry, thirsty aching bones

YOU ARE the Resurrection and the Life

In this silence, this desert, my body groans

OH LORD, be my hiding place where I can pray

Acknowledge the sins where the deadness lays

Wash me LORD, cleanse these cracked clay feet

Redemption lies only at the foot of YOUR cross

I bow down to You, my LORD, make me new

Dry, dead bones, you have softened and fashioned

Now LORD, with outstretched arms, tear-flooded eyes

Please, hear my cry

Be my Resurrection and my life!

This poem is a combination of Ezekiel 37, a chapter on God bringing dead, dry bones back to life, then to Psalm 32 a Psalm of forgiveness which speaks of how David's bones groaned from hiding sin in his life and then turning to God for forgiveness. We then turn to Psalm 51 where David laments his sin and returns to God pleading for Him to forgive David his trespasses and to wash his heart whiter than snow. And finally, finding our hearts resurrected through the cross of Christ because He is our Resurrection and our Life. No one comes to the Father but through Him.

Are you feeling dead and dry today? Are you needing God's resurrection and life? There is power in His blood. Turn now and and find forgiveness from Him and know the fullness of being alive in Him!

I hope you will join with me in reading these chapters and letting me know in the comments below how God uses them in your heart and life this week.

From my heart to yours,
Marcie

  1. Marcie, this is powerful. How easy it is to put on our happy-face mask and push the pain that suffocates us below the surface where no one can see. But God ... God sees and knows all about it and yearns to restore and set us free is only we will let Him. Thank you for this beautiful reminder.

    1. Thank you Nan :-) It's also easy to think that God's resurrection power is just for us when we get saved but I'm learning that it is also for when we are in despair or when we sin. I was doing a Beth Moore study several years ago when the verse in 2 Corinthians 5:17 showed up and I remember thinking, you know, this doesn't just apply to salvation. Every time we ask God to forgive us of our sin and He cleanses us from it He then makes us new AGAIN! And that is just so powerful to me!
